there markings are none that i have seen before on their sides they have yellow circles with black centers and on there heads they have black stripes with yellow edging i have a picture but the quality is poor hope some one can help me cheers phil

hi no my lfs is a bit slack if i knew how to post a pick of them then i would but it wont let me post one up the sides of the puffer are simlar to mine but it has distink stipes on their heads what elce makes me think they are mbu is that they are living with a platty and a cichlid that is recovering from been battered and they are not tuching them

You can upload your photo on to photo hosting websites like Photobucket and post a link here.

Patterns on figure 8s can vary quite a lot. I don't keep any other puffers other than Dwarfs so can't help much but there are quite a few Puffer experts here so post a pic and be patient :)

Have you also checked the "the puffer forum dot com" ?

It's very difficult to tell from the picture but it looks like the Green spotted puffer Tetradon nigroviridus or Tetradon fluviatilis to me. If it's T. nigroviridus then it will grow to about 4 inches and upto about 5-6 inches if it's T. fluviatilis. Both are aggressive fin-nippers so I wouldn't keep them with any other fish. They both need the same conditions which is brackish water with an SG of 1.008 to 1.020.

Where are the extra pictures?

From the one image that is there it definately looks like Tetraodon Sabahensis (Indian Giant Puffer) This is a High Brackish to Marine Saltwater Puffer, and should be cared for as with T. Fluviatilis. As for size they are thought to grow to somewhere between 6-10".

Having said that it seems rather foolish to buy 2 fish, which 1) you have no idea what it is, 2) no idea its water requirements 3) growth, thus tank requirements.

My suggestion would be to rehome one of them (as generally Puffers dont do well together) and then start moving the fish to brackish water slowly until you get it to about 1.008 then once the fish is older and larger up to 1.010 or there abouts.

thats the one i was on about best i can get at the min im affriad the tank they where in at my lfs was frsh water and they are in fresh water at the min turning into a brackish is no problem and can be easily done i was just intreeged to know what type of puffer it is as i have neven seen thse beofre i have kept dwarf puffers before but had to give them up due to work commitments but now i have a new job it means i can get back into puffers hope this picture helps cheers

I'm with DarkEntity, from the photo its looks like T. Sabahensis (Indian Giant Puffer) not T. Fuviatilis (Ceylon Puffer) doesn't seem to have the 2 normal yellow & black stripes that the T. Fuviatilis (Ceylon Puffer) would have if it was one of them.

But im no puffer expert, just my opinion :)

Are both those pics the same fish? They look completely different, the first image looks like T. Sabahensis and the second image is T. Fuviatilis
