Hi all
My female pseudotropheus elongatus ornatus has just released her fry into my nursery tank yesterday, most of the fry are in hiding behind rocks and I have removed her back to the main tank,
What should I do now ? what should I feed them on? I have som frozen brine shrimp, is this good for them?
any help much appreciated
best wishes
Berbie

Hi Berbie, not sure where you stand on the frozen brine shrimp, just feed them tiny amounts of crushed regular cichlid flake twice daily and the fry will be easy to raise. Avoiding fouling the water in your nursery tank by overfeeding is the key to success. How many fry did you get?

I think i have about 5 or 6, not sure at the moment because there are rocks in the tank for them to hide.

Quite a small brood - but like you say there might be a few more hiding in the rocks! Elongatus Ornatus were on my wishlist to contrast my yellow labs with their blue coloration, until I read about the females and the subdominant males being yellow - is that true in your experience, only 1 dominant male is blue? I now want demasonis instead, but can't source them locally. Good luck with the fry :)

No the male is a beautiful colour of Blue and the females are a slightly drab shade of Blue, nice fish though, the male is stunning!
How many should there be in the brood? im sure i read somewhere you can have up to 20.
