i've heard that depending on the set up of your tank and the amount of LR you dont need a protein skimmer, i currently have a 65 gallon tank, with about 12 fish and 5 coral and 110lbs of LR. i currently do run a protein skimmer but would it be beneficial not to or should i just keep it. i rather not have it seeing that the tank is in my room and with the protein skimmer its so noisey.

what are your thoughts???? protein skimmer or not?

p.s. i currently have to empty the protein skimmer about once every week and even then theres not a whole lot of waste only about 300ml of waste

I would always recommend a skimmer, can get rid of 'problems' eg phosphate and nitrate !!

Sounds like your skimmer may need "tweaking" to raise the air/water interface a bit...

If you're concerned with algae blooms, skim. If not, dont bother.

i find it i increase the flow anymore i tend to get nothing but loads of water within the hour. i find though i have to clean the glass every day if not a thick green algea grows or collects, is this because of the skimmer or because of the photoplykton i feed the corals every other day

yeah i figured thats why oh well to have beautiful tank you gotta put a lot of care into right haha cheers
