Hi everyone,

I am in the process of setting up a 55g gallon tank. Should I use a pad or carpet to protect the hardwood floors or will I be fine?

Thanks,

Mauro

It depends largely on the hardness of the wood, the weight of the tank, and the type of legs on the stand. It could very well dent the floor where the legs are. If it were me, I would find a nice thick area rug to set the stand on, and/or, if possible, set the legs on furniture coasters.

I would find some heavy duty coasters. My metal tank stand that has a 20 and a 30 gallon tanks has 8 inch square metal coasters, just to be safe I put some wood plants under those. My 55 gallon tank came with a stand that sits flat on the floor so the weight is spread out over the whole stand.
