Hi everybody.

I have a fairly newly setup 10 gallon tank that I want to add some live plants to. The hood of my tank says that the highest wattage allowed is 15 watts. Would I be able to find good fluorescent lighting that would be good enough for live plants with the maximum wattage being 15 watts?

Thanks!

The standard bulb that comes with the tank is good enugh to create a low light setup with very easy, low light plants. Depending on what came with the unit you may want to upgrade the bulb to a nice 6700k plant oriented one.

My 20 gallon long tank has only 18 watts of standard light on it, and while they grow at an incredibly slow rate, I have live plants doing well under it.

I have a 10gl that I am preparing to plant. My hood also is to a maximum 15w.

If your hood is like mine, just a regular screw type bulb, and not a tube you can use a spiral fluorescent from Home Depot.

There are 2 choices of 60w 'day light'...these are 60w equivalents.
Actual watts are 13w 5750k, and the other is 14w 5000k.

I have them both, and not sure which one I am going to use yet.

If you want to see what the 14w 5000k looks like in the tank. I have a picture in my journal.

Noobs ltlb 10....in the journal section.
