Problems

Water states are fine but i have lost 3 of my males im planning on breeding, it wasnt age and they all showed the same signs, floating near the top of water and clumped fins, i have found a video of a better showing the same signs as might, i hope you can help me ID it and help me fix the problem.... #

Can you help by telling us your tank size? Was it filtered? Was it heated? Did you use dechlorinator? How often did you do water changes?

Also did you get your males from the same place? (could be bad stocking?)

its a 2.5 feet tank and sectioned into 4 equal sections,
its filtered by 4 different undergravel filters (one in each section)
yes its heated by a elite 25W
Yes I do, follow the guidelines on the back of bottle
I do a 15%-25% water change every monday,
The males were find, ive had one for 3 years (counting the year old he was at shop) the other was about 2 year (counting shop age) and the other was young was brought from shop but only had him 3 months or so. When I added some drawf puffers to one of the secions, thats when the problems occured.

The puffers may have been carrying something which the betta's caught.

Incidentally; how are you finding the puffers; I was half considering getting them a while ago?

general they are a lovely fish, you got to have a group of them though, they shy but good little fish,
and yes i agree i think they was carrying velvet and thats what i think its all,

i have 10 dwarf puffers in with my lovely purple fighter they get on like a house on fire.
i change my water 50%a week feed them all on blood worm and have never had a problem.uffers get snails every now and again but they are gone seconds after entering the tank perfect tankmates in my opinion.also have 10 guppy fry with these at the min watched carefully and even they are doing fine but guppys only temp untill i get a new tank as money is short.might just be a bacterial infection.just popped out of nowhere.hope this i s helpfull one way or another.

for velvet you need anti-external parasite med. and keep the tank blacked out for 5 days. the parasite cannot survive without light. so throw a towel or something over the tank. only feed the fish when its dark. no peeking or cheating. keep the tank dark.
to "diagnose" velvet, shine a flashlight in the tank with the room lights out (dark room). will look like gold dust on the fish.

okay thanks for the help, i cannot see any gold dust on the remaining two puffers (one passed away yesturday) but my girlfriends goldfish (which she thinks might of carried it) the smaller goldfish was in a section on the diseased tank and might of carried it over, and now two goldfish died too, you can see a gold dust or little spots over them more easily then the puffers...

1. Everything has made clear to me now!

Kieren brought some puffers as a birthday gift, I put them in, then come my birthday (a week later) I had some spare money so brought some more, while I brought the second lot I saw their sectioned fighters tank had the same fin problem as mine, but thought nothing at the time (as well as thinking it was a ammonia issue then)

I draw all my fighters, and mark by them when sold and when they pass away, crumpled passed away a month later, so it wasnt my fault it was the puffers that brought in the deasea and its clear and i have proff now...

2. Doing all treament, doing the Milton now and leaving it to stand for about 2 hours also will set it up after that and carry treament on the tank, but i have put all deco in washing machine so really hot water, stone i brought new (didnt want to risk it) and all real plants are in bin now.

3. I went to show and asked them what they could do (only thinking they could replace the puffers) and they told me for different reason they cannot replace the puffers - but can give me the money they are worth to buy something else (£28.00) and they can also replace the 3 fighters I lost...
And another good thing, i dont have to go in a hurry there is no time limit, i can go back after a week or later if i wish, so this should be good
