I recently purchased an Aqua Clear 50 and found it to be VERY NOISY. When I replaced the impeller with one from my AC 30, it was almost silent. I also used the impeller from my AC 20 and that too was silent. causing me to conclude that the AC 50's impeller is the source of the noise.

Does anyone else have a very noisy AC 50 ? If so what was your resolution?
Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm don't have a Aqua Clear pump, but my eheim had a very noisy impeller, it was just worn out. You can probably just buy a new impeller. Could be the shaft is broken/cracked or the rubbers keeping the shaft in place are dried out. My eheim replacement impeller was a complete set of impeller/shaft/rubbers and only cost a couple of bucks.
If you bought the unit new, then I would just take it back to the shop, demanding a replacement.

I have an AC 50, and have never had any noise issues with it. In fact, I find it more reliable and QUIETER than my Penguin. I would second the defective impeller theory and either take it back or replace the part. I do love this filter! :good:
