Problems Finding a New Betta...

Hi,

I've been looking for a new betta to put in a 2 gallon tank to keep my other depressed betta company... Anyway, i went round three different shops today and only managed to find two bettas!!!!! No one seems to have any!!!

Anyway, the bettas i found weren't very good... there was one crowntail but his fins were all ripped and he kind of just sat at the bottom of the tank... the other one was a veil tail but he was TINY - like, literally the size of a big guppy!!! He was pretty, but according to the person at the shop he's about 6 months old so should be fully grown... His fins seemed ok, but should he be that small?!?! I dont want to end up buying a fish thats just going to die after a couple of days but im getting really worried about my betta, he seems so depressed :(

What should i do?! or does anyone know where i can get HEALTHY bettas in Gloucestershire (UK)?! I cant find anywhere....

Thanks, Jess

I'm not sure about getting bettas in Gloucestershire, but I'm surprised you found a crowntail in the UK. They dont seem to exist round here!

Also the small betta is probably just young, I have a delta that is now the size of my male guppies, but he's still a littl'un and has some growing to do yet.

If you are willing to pay for postage try trimar. They are a UK fish mail order shop and you can visit their website at http://www.trimar.co.uk. The website may make you want to gouge out your eyes, but from what ive heard their stock is healthy and arrives in good condition.

Hey Nutmeg,

The crowntail might not be so bad then?! I was a bit concerned about the ripped fins though... Its the only one ive seen here!
I shall have a look on that site and see if i can find anything better on there, though obviously, as its only as a companion for my betta, i dont want to spend too much on this fish!!!

Thanks, Jess

until you get another betta, you could place a mirror next to his tank. that way he thinks there is another fish there to keep him company

Only veiltails around me.. Had to go 30 miles for my crowntail.

can you use aquabid the bettas there are amazing but its kinda pricey

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies! :) I dont know if i could use aquabid, dont you have to be in America? I have had a look on there before and the fish seem reasonably priced but with shipping to England that would probably end up costing a fortune!!!

Shadow - Ive been trying with the mirror but he just completely ignores it... doesn't even move off the bottom of the tank... Though, i think he may have been moving last night as there are literally hundreds of bubbles at the top of the tank - could this be a bubble nest?!

Ive not seen him move today though... im getting really worried now... hope he doesn't die!!!
