I have a snail problem in our aquarium. We have what seems to be dozens (probably more) snails. The little white ones and some red snails. The problem is that they seem to get to the food that I give the catfish before the catfish get a chance to feel.

It's really getting really annoying and disgusting to look at as the snails are taking over the tank.

Before I loose my sanity I must get rid of these snails. Is there a tropical fish that may eat them? I don't really want to use chemicals. Anyway. Please help. :look:

Loaches and puffers eat them. But puffers might not be compatible with your fish. And loaches usually like to be in schools of 3-5, so I don't know if you have the room for them.

Try putting some of the food that they seem to be so fond of in a cup at the bottom of the tank. Maybe lay the cup sideways so they can get in easier. Then when a lot of snails are in the cup lift it out and pick out the snails.

you could put a piece of cucumber in some boiling water for about 30 seconds. Let it cool and put it on the bottom of your tank and turn the lights out. Then hopefully some snails will be on it when you turn the lights back on then just take it out and repeat it untill there gone. Works for me unless my plec finds it first he tends to just sit on the cucmber and eat it all :D

depending on what fish and other lifeforms in the tank you can buy snail killer from aquatics shops-not good if you have a fresh water crab or shrimp

I have heard of using cucumber to catch the snails, a lot of people seem to find it works well - I have never tried it as I haven't had a snail problem - yet!

:) Wow thankyou everyone for the great replies. I'm going to try these suggestions and post back. :fish:
