Hi all

Our swordy, we have had for quite a while now, has developed a strange problem. She has become humpbacked which makes her belly appear sucked in and she stays at the bottom of the tank, still swimming but seems to wiggle. Now I know there is a serious problem here but all the websites I have been on, this doesn't seem to be a symptom of anything. Her skin has not changed, there is no loss of appetite, but I know she will die. One of our mollies died yesterday of the same thing. Again she was swimming but struggling and was still eating but now she's gone and not sure what this is. Skin was fine, gills were fine, just this humpbacked shape.

Has anyone heard of this? Please help.

Thank you in advance

hi,
its proberbly an internal parasite unfortunatly they are quite hard to treat what colour is the fish poo lol? iff its red then its most proberbly an internal parasite

Thanks for the info. I have attached a couple of photos although they are not very clear. She is in a separate tank now. We are going down to the pet shop today to see what medication, if any, they have.

Not sure on the colour of her poo. You ask if it is red, they have a little redish coloured food in their diet so all the fish's poo has flecks of red, so not sure if we can go off that. Thanks anyway.

She's still alive this morning, but not sure how long for.

Charlie

ive had the same problem before. what type of filter do u have ? swordtails are small and sometimes get stuck on the filter and it can cause some serious problems like broken spines =[

Our swordy is quite large and so was the molly that died. The filter doesn't bother any of the fish, even the babies.

We are going to the shop shortly so will see what treatments they have. I know we will probably lose swordy so it would be great to find a treatment for the other fish. I don't want to lose anymore. One of the baby guppies looks ill this morning, but hasn't effected his back yet, Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the advice.

i really hope u find a cure, good luck. changing 20% of the water and cleaning ur gravel mite help a lil bit.

you'll get better help on what to do in the emergency section :good: i have a female guppy like it, she was born like that and she is now about a year old it doesn't seem to bother her, but she does have a tank to herself
