I just connected my nutrafin unit and bubbles came out within a few minutes using jimbooo's/ gf's mixture, but the bubbles are clogging at the ladder holes and combining into big bubbles that just bust and pop out of the entire ladder, losing all the co2.

- What could be the problem? Has this happened to you guys? The ladder looks pretty level.

Thanks for your help.

in my experiences if its a new ladder it takes a few days for the slime coat to build up and then the bubbles start to travel up again..at least thats what happened to me..even when i cleaned it i had the same problem..it should work itself out..is the ladder level?..how far up the ladder do they go?..have you checked to make sure nothing is blocking the bubbles travel path?..a couple days may be a little high..i cant clearly remember..hth...

well, the small bubbles get all jammed up at the start (right next to the hose) and the connecting holes in each corner leading to the next level. They stay there and combine to make 1 big bubble and eventually the level gets filled up so the new bubbles just hit the old ones and get thrown off the ladder and pop at the surface. Yah, I checked to make sure it was level.

A few get up to the top of the ladder, but only because a plant deflects them up there as they are floating outisde the ladder. These ones jam up also. I'll try cleaning it and taking a picture tonight.

Thanks for the help

any others that have or have not had this experience?

My brand new one is acting simiar but I think my co2 is still pretty good. What is supposed to happen? Bubbles are supposed to go to the top of the ladder? Mine just float to the left of my ladder.

lol they are supposed to go back and forth along the different parts of the ladder, but I just started mine about 5 hours ago and the bubbles dont even go up the ladder.

- its not a co2 problem I'm sure b/c I get about 1bubble/second. They have to stay in the ladder to be diffused.

- off topic but might as well ask, what mixtures and yeast type/brand do you use?

Make sure the ladder is as straight as you can get it and the connector of the CO2 line is flush with that little notch thing, basically so the bubbles can move freely.

yah, those are all fine. Thanks for the reply. Did you ever have a problem like this when you first started yours?

All sounds fairly normal...

As long as the tubing is correctly fitted and the ladder is level things should settle down.
I have 2 Nutrafin ladders running in 2 different tanks and both acted like this for the first couple of days when new.

The bubbles should leave the tube and travel up the ladder to the top, getting smaller as they go. Sometimes when new the bubbles get jammed on the way up and sometimes they come straight off the ladder as soon as they leave the tube.

The only other thing is that if the ladder has been in use for a while and you start seeing this, then you'll need to take the ladder out and give it a clean.

Mine did exactly the same thing for the first day or so.............don't worry it'll sort itself out.

So did mine, it should pass in a few days.

Themuleous God of co2 has spoken , he knows his stuff sorted my co2 misshapps out many times
i just got a pressureised kit and it was doing the big bubbles and clogging up and blowing some out the top of the defuser and at one point thought my scalie friends would have their own jacuzzi
just from what ive learned through diy co2 and the new kit i can say things WILL sort out calm down and wont hurt any fish you need patience and a lot of fiddling :shifty: but will get there in the end ;)

Hi friend,

Yes it also happened to me at first, but i just wanted to check the other two things i mentioned since it happened to me after a water change once and it was because the pipe end was not properly butted up against the plastic of the ladder.
Give it a few days like everyone says.

Chris
