Hi all,

Im very new to guppys my mother decided she wanted them and some neons. However i seem to be having trouble with one of the guppys i think its a female as its the larger of the of the fish and she looks to be pregnant.

The problem im getting is that the smaller guppys that look like the males keep hassleing her. And she keeps on trying to hide from them the neons just ignore the guppys which is great but the smaller guppys just wont leave her alone.

Now i dont want her getting stressed out by them hassleing her is there anything i can do to keep her calm.

Many thanks

that happen to too many male and not enought female. A balance number is 1male to every 2female minimum. Before I even put 1male/3female combo. You probably want to remove her before she gets too stress or add more female.

Thank you very much for your help with this my mother asked the man in the shop for 3 male and 6 female guppys but i have just looked at them and he has given her 4 male and 4 females. I will be purchasing 4 more females for the tank tommorow.

Now could anyone advise me on the best way to seperate the pregnant feale from the the males i was thinking of a tank within the tank so she can still see the rest of the fish but they cant get at her.

Your help is much appreciated

you can buy a small baby breeding tray. it is basically a tray which floats on top of the water and it has a small grill at the bottom. you put your females in there and when the babies are born they swim through the bottom and stay safe where the mother cant eat them!

not that i would visibly know because none of my females have every had any fry!!!

you have to careful when you put the girls in tho it can freak them out that much that they wont have the babies (this is only what i have heard on the net, im not sure how true it is!)

what size is your tank? and what else do you have with them.

Are you trying to save the fry, cause the female would imo be better off just left in the tank rather then in a breeding contraption for her health.
