Last night I saw my 1.5 inch Bristlenose Plecos fighting.
I have a few questions:

1. Does this mean they are both males?
2. Are they fighting or mating?
3. Is this serious? Like, will they fight to the death/ injury?
4. If it is serious, how do I stop it?

Thanks.

I'm uploading a video now and I'll post it when It's done.
It's done.

stands a chance there both males if fighting wouldnt worry 2 much about it unless it is constant and becoming very vicious as for mating no chance at 1.5 inch ....wot size tank they in and is there plenty of hiding places and when are they fighting and wot over FOOD???

I drop in 3 bottom feeder pellets every day and one is actually chewing on one now. They have grown really fast and I don't think its an issue over food (they don't go for cucumber strangely)

It's a 15 gallon tank with loads of hiding places:

I've only seen them fight once, and it was at night, about 2 hours after i turned the light off. Posted video.

56 litres is 12 UK gallons :p

I wouldn't worry too much about them unless you actually see any damage on them.

What planting do you have?

I have loads of different plants, all live, in my tanks and my BNs seem to prefer Amazon Sword :good:

I always work in US gallons with fish tanks, because it seems to be the more popularly used measurement, but yeah, it is 12 UK gallons.

My tank doesn't have any real plants, it has a single plastic plant at the back and a pretty big bit of bogwood.

Also, thanks for the help. If I see any damage on either of them I'll probably take one back to the LFS.

Also, what is that wierd spherical plant shown in Brinn's tank in your signature?

I remember, when I got my two BNs, they used to have territory disputes (as in, one of them, which was a teeny bit bigger, would chase off the other one if it got too close). Over time, it became obvious that one was a male (the teeny bit bigger one) and the other female. Now they like each other, unless the male (Sir Burton) is eating. Then the female (Mrs Lovett) can bugger off, lol

This means it could still be a male and a female then :D

I want to breed and sell them :p

My Bn's seem to chew on my moss balls..No idea why!

Moss Balls have a habit of trying to hide food. That'll be the reason :D

I think I may have gotten lucky in that respect.

It seems like Slippy has a male and female in his tank and possibly both in Brinn's tank are females.

Looks like Injhun will be a lucky Plec :D

Means I gotta go about re-naming when I'm 100% certain of sexing though :grr:

Ok guys they fought again and there is damage to both of their tail fins.

One is much larger and has a much broader tail fin, and I think he is male. The smaller one has a more roughed up tail (looks as iff its been torn a bit) but the bigger one has splits coming from the end of the tail and leading in towards his body.

Will they still be ok? No other damage seen.
One of my tiger barbs had a large red patch and a broken fin where another one attacked him. Now he has the most vibrant colours and rules the pecking order (full recovery). Will they make a recovery like him?

Must admit I have never known BNs to be outwardly viscous.

Mine do have a tendency to see off other fish from their food though, but never any rough stuff.

Having said that, all my pairs are in bigger tanks than yours so they have larger territories.

anyway getting back on subject:
I have two albino long finned Bns who fight...I say fight but they do this crazy dance around each other. Not really vicious though. Its usually over food. I just hope one is of either sex.
