Ok, I have a Juwel Rio 300. As most will know, that is a 300 ltr 66 gallon tank. Its as it came, filter inside in the corner and so on. I am looking on ebay for an external filter.
My problem is this, the filter has slots that pull the water in on the top as well as half way down. In a way I'm glad of this. But, I have some floating plants that I really like. And the filter always sucks the plants towards it. I have to keep my air stone pump running constantly to sort of keep the plans at the other end.

Also, Whats the best position to ave the nozel of the filter... Moving the surface or facing down?

These points are bothering me and any decent advice or comments on how you might deal with this will be most welcome.

Cheers.

I would position the filter outlet so it is breaking the water surface - this helps to oxygenate the tank.

As for your floating plants there isn't really anything you can do, they are bound to get pushed to one end of the tank with current produced by your filter.
