I purchased the halfmoons. The first was a Royal Blue Halfmoon with large finnage name Carl (my GF renamed him Johnny Bravo). When I found a Steel Blue one, I gave the Royal Blue one to my GF.

I was looking at him tonight, and he seem to have problems with his Caudal fin, in the send that he seems to have difficulty raising the top part more than a few degrees... he spreads to about 120 degrees only now and the bottom is spread a full 90 degrees.

I was thinking maybe the fin is too big for him to carry? Or could it be some other problem.

My Steel Blue Halfmoon and my Rosetail both have substantially smaller causdal fins.

Maybe just add some melafix into his water.

bah! Melafix is far from the answer

It's definitely a weight problem, it just gets too heavy for them. That's why I don't care for long finned bettas. It will just get droopier with age. Sorry :/

Not sure if you plan to breed him,but if you do you might have to trim his tail up a bit just so he can wrap the female. You might have to do that eventually anyway, just to make life bearable for him :p

I have trimmed bleeding clotting fins from a VT, but a halfmoon looks rather difficult. Yes this guys caudal is big. I will try to get a picture. But my guess is that his caudal fin is as long as his body.

Of course it is hard to trim a halfmoon unless you get me an air ticket and I will fly there to trim for you. LOL :p Just pick him up and trim it. :) You have to do it if you want your halfmoon swim good. :)

I hear yeah Yeevia... it just scares me a bit since it is goign to be pretty hard...
