...but how long would you guys leave it before you put more fish in your new tank, It has been set up for 4 weeks now and Friday just gone we put 8 neon tetra's, 4 clown loaches and a pleco in the tank and I was just wondering how long to wait and how many fish to put in (100 litre tank) I realise that you have to put a few in each time but how many? Also when you do a water change do you use water straight from the tap or do you store water in a vessel to use in the tank and if you use tap water would you use a product like aquasafe.

Thanks. :D

:D yes cycling is important as you know there is alot ov advice on tank set up /tank mates /compatability just look at the pinned topics above the forums and all your questions will be answered if not dont hessitate to ask if you are unsure good luck :D

I'm new myself but from what I have learned so far I think 4 clowns may be a little optimistic in a 100ltr tank. I'm sure someone more experienced will be along shortly to confirm or shoot me down in flames :)

I know I wanted clowns but having seen some 6" ones today at the LFS I can see why I was warned off them

On a more helpfull note. With the water change I syphon out the ammount i wanna change and dump it on the garden, the nitrates are good for the plants ;) , then I have a big bucket that i fill with tap water the ammount i took out, adding hot water to get the temp right. Then add declorinator and transfer in back into the tank. The last part I need to work on big style as my first two attempts have resulted in me very wet

lol laughs as for the clown loach i agree that a 100 ltr tank will not house the adult fish so id advise against them unless you are going to get a larger tank in the future i started with a 100 ltr with clowns and other fish my clowns are now in a 400 ltr maybee on there own soon ????

Errm, oops I already got 4 clowns!!!! Ah well looks like the wife might be in for a surprise when the new tank arrives!!! (I might be in for a thick ear!!!) As for the getting wet, I just got me one of THESE and it works a treat :D

After you add fish to a tank thats cycling your ammonia/nitrite will shoot up, then drop again. Use tests to check when its gone down to suitable levels. This will probably take around 2 weeks.
