I got 2 pristella tetras for my 10g today. (I am going to get 3 or 4 more later). When the light was on they just sat in one place (other than when I fed them) but now that the light is off they are swimming around all over the place. Is this their normal habit or is it because of them being new? There are no other fish in the tank.

Mine are always out and about, maybe they were just settling in. Did you have the light off for at least a couple of hours when you got them home? I don't think they are nocturnal, they ay have just felt safer in the dark at that time.

Nice fish btw, congratulations. :)

Thanks-they are much more active today although when I go put my face near the tank they hide in the corner. Maybe I'm just ugly. lol. I did not turn the light out when I put them in. Oops didn't know about that. I gave them a pea today and at first they were like "wth is this thing" because they only get flakes at the lfs but then they started nibbling on it and it's about half gone. I think I'll go tomorrow and get 2 more because these two look like they need some friends. :D

My 6 were a little shy the first couple of days I had them. Now, they swim all over the place. I think your two would definately like at least 3 more friends if you have room. They are beautiful fish once they get used to your water. When the light hits them right they will sparkle like diamonds.

yeah there just settlin in. They will start be swimmin out an about. hey it took over two weeks for my curvicep to settle in.

They are much more active now. They didn't finish their pea (I'll fish it out tomorrow if it's not gone by then) but they are swimming around more. I'm not going to be able to get to the lfs tomorrow but I think we might try to go this weekend, monday at the latest.
