i had two pairs in my comunity for a couple of years and they spawned regularly, like every couple of weeks, but no fry. aparently the water needs to be realy realy realy soft for the eggs to be viable
males are more colourful than females and are slimmer.
Get a group and feed them well on a variety of different foods. A week before you breed them seperate the sexes into different tanks. Then after they have been kept apart for a week put a pr in a small tank (approx 18x12x12inches) with soft acid water. You can use peat moss to drop the PH and make the water a brown colour. Have a layer of Java Moss over the bottom or in a corner.
Put the fish in the tank one day and remove them the following afternoon. They usually breed in the morning.
Turn the tank light off and cover the tank in dark paper or material to keep the light out. After a few days the eggs will have hatched and the fry will be hanging onto the side of the tank. A few days later they should be free swimming and now you can uncover the tank and start feeding them on infusoria or liquid fry foods.
