My local fish store is selling discus for $14 apiece. Is this really cheap, or fairly average. I've seen them on the web for $40. Wish I had more room in my tank.

This sounds really cheap to me. When my LFS has them, they're around the $45 pricetag. I think different varieties are more expensive than others.

As you can see below, I have a discus tank (in my dreams)

;)

In LFS I've usually seen 2 - 3" fish for around $25. The breeder that I got my fish from sells 5" fish for $30.

I got 3 1.5" Discus for $75 canadian from a small LFS in Missisauga Ontario. Just wondering if it's actually cheaper and better quality if you buy from a breeder compare to your LFS.

If they look good to you and they fit your budget, that is a good price.

If you are going into breeding or contests... you will have to do lots of research.

a good mated pair will go for a few thousand bucks if I recall.

Its just like gold fish, orchids, trading cards, ect

if they look to be ok their a bargain!!!

but then again, the LFS might be trying to get rid of "bad stock" quickly

my lfs store sells 5" dicus fish for about $75. They are usually the snakeskin variety.
Is that cheap?

Does anybody knows a breeder that sells small 2" discus in Toronto Canada?
