I keep seeing people buying these kits and I cant help but think to myself everytime why! You can buy all the parts seperatly and do the job just as good if not better, cheapest kit I have seen is over £100 and the bottles are tiny.

So heres a little breakdown of what I bought just to show how easy and so much cheaper it is. It will also prevent me from re-typing this everytime I see the post "which CO2 kit?"
  • Deltec Twin Guage Reg £53
  • Aquamedia Bubblecounter £12
  • Tubing £2
  • Gas Bottle £10-£15 for a 14lb bottle
  • Diffuser (optional, I dont use one I use my canister filter, if you dont have one you can use your powerhead) about £10?
The reg, bubblecounter and tubing I purchased from here, although I dare say if you shop aroudn you may get it cheaper. The gas bottle can be had from any good gas supplier, check yell.com or something.

Setup is pretty much the same as that in jimbooo's guide. Remember to start of slowly so you dont lower the pH too quickly though thi swill eb dependant on the size of your tank and also set the reg pressure to about 1.5 - 2 bar?

The gas bottle is quite a big boy, mine has so far lasted me well over a year and I think there is still a fair bit left.

Building the system up like that is a lot cheaper to set up, if you have a bit of a look around you can pick the pieces up even cheaper.
Here's a regulator for £30

and you can go for dispossable bottles aswell, which case you'd need this one instead

and the bottles

I'm looking into this myself but will most likely have to get the disposable bottle because of the size of the refillable bottles, plus I get the whole "you'll blow up the house with that!!" so the big bottle isn't allowed in the house

I believe the Milwaukee regulator is popular in the states. Take a look at the aqua botanic store, they have the reg, bubblecounter and a solenoid on sale for $73.99 no idea if that is a good price or not as I have not shopped around.

All you would basically need is a bit of tubing and a CO2 bottle then your away.

Has anyone done this in the US and know where to get these things?
