Pressurised Co2 Bubble Size

Hi people

I am using a D-Deltec pressurised co2 unit which has been set up now for a month or so, What i wanted to know was can i control the size of the bubbles to make them smaller as i think they are are to big because they just shoot up to the surface very fast. If i turn the coarse reg valve would this make a difference?

It says the bubbles should dissolve before reaching the surface but mine dont!

Anyone with any knowledge of these units will help no doubt

Have you got a diffuser on the end of the co2 tubing? Sounds like you haven't.

There are lots of types but Aquaessentils do most.

Yes i have a diffuser that came with it, my old man has the same one and his come out small and fast but my bubbles come out much bigger and dont dissolve before hitting the surface

Dont know then, sounds like you might not have plumbed it in correct. A pic would help.

To make the bubble smaller it needs to come out of a smaller hole. Just remeber that for the same rate of CO2 injection you will need more bubbles per second. Also remember that some diffusers, especially of the ladder type need a few days to bed in. You may find that the gas just collects at the bottom of the ladder and then one large bubble shoots up the ladder too quickly to disolve. Give it a few days.

To reduce the picture file size use a freeware program like Irfanview (a great little program). Crop the image as necessary and then resample (under the edit dropdown menu) to a smaller size. Save as a jpg and check the file size. If it's too big just resample it to a lower size.

1. Open an account with Photobucket or a similar free image hoster

2. Download a program from the internet called IrfanView which you can use to resize the pictures without losing a load of quality like MsPaint does.

3. Resize your pics to 40% or 50%

4. Upload them onto Photobucket or your image hosting site.

5. Click on the url under the pic you just uploaded, right click, copy

6. In your post on here click on the icon with the hills and a sun (next to the smiley face), and when a promt for the url comes up, right click in the text line and paste.

You have just inserted a photo link into your post.

It will look like this http:\\photobucket\picture.jpg[img]

Click on preview post underneath where you type and you can see the post with the inserted picture.

So whats happening? The bubbles are coming out big? If so check the ceramic disk is not cracked. If its ok, soak the diffuser in a bleach solution for half an hour then soak in some tap water to remove the bleach, that normally gets my diffusers creating more of a mist.

do you recomend just soaking the top piece where the bubbles come out or the whole thing

I`ve just got rid of this diffuser as to be fair its a bit pants.
I bought one of These as i want a diffuser at each end of the tank and was that impressed with how fine the mist was that i sprung for another one straight away...

Also be aware that the higher you have your bubble rate set the more co2 will be passing through that ceramic disc and so the bigger bubbles it will form.
