Prepping Wood For Tank

I got some oak branches from the tree in my front yard, debarked them and put them in water. Waiting for the tannins to release. Should I dry them in the sun first, or let them leach tannins?

Is oak even safe for tanks?

i think you should dry them out as much as poss to prevent any sap etc entering the tank... this may take a while depending on the thickness and size of the wood.......
