Hello guys. I had to make account here so I can ask this question.
first of all i have to mention that I am a beginner in fish keeping.
I have a 10gallon planted tank. In it I have:
1 guppy
1 platy
1 betta crown tail (docile)
1 corydora
2 ghost shrimps
Anyway this afternoon when I got home I noticed that I have small frys' in the tank swimming around. I was surprised as hell because when I purchased my fishes from the pet store I was under impression that they are all Male, why? because the pet store labeled them a Male so... Well anyway long story short,it turns out that my platy is a female and it is pregnant, Darn pet store...
(I initially thought it was just fat and greedy feeder).
Ok I quickly accepted that,
what is weird though is how is it pregnant? I know that guppy crossbreed with mollies but I was not aware that they can make platy pregnant?
I had to make a makehift net. I will buy a hang on breeding box tomorrow.
Questions: 1.Will the fry survive?
2.Will the female platy die?
3. Seems cruel but should i Let them keep breeding with the betta as a crowd control?
4. Can i send the female platy back to the pet store and exchange for a male? I don't have the receipt of the purchase anymore though..
This is really unexpected and a bit of a hassle especially since I have no plans to upgrade to a bigger tank yet so Im not sure if i can raise all of the fry ,providing they survive that is.
Here are the photos of the aquarium, fry, guppy and platy. The fry looks like it have the body of a guppy but the fin and tails of the platty.
