how on earth do you manage to sex rats at that age?? they seem to struggle in shops when their about 3 months old let along 3 days lol

You really do need to stop handling them untill they are older.

Everything I've read and ever rat person and breeder I've talked to says as long as its ok with mamma, the babies can start being handled after 24 hours. afterall how else would you check if they're healthy and make sure they have milkbands, etc? Callie will hand me the babies and then go off for playtime.

In the last pictures I only count 14 little ones, does this mean you've lost two? If so, I'm really sorry to hear.
They are absolutely beautiful though, and so is mum! Very hard to imagine she's had all those little ones inside her, even if you look at the picture of her pregnant ... it seems like they would take up so much more room than she'd have in her. They're lovely though, enjoy them!

Any idea yet what you'll do with the little ones? Gonna keep at least some of them?

Aww the babies are so small, reminds me of way back when i used to have the hamsters and we bred them once, the babies looked almost exactly like your rats babies except they didn't have the long tails- actually newborn baby rats and hamsters look like bald little testicles (gross i know but i can't help but think that sometimes) .

You can already start to see there colors? They are wonderful Babies Jaded! I wish my family liked rats, I LOVE them. But everyone else in my WHOLE family hates there long tails All well, anyway, REALLY CUTE babies!
