I have a Platy that appears to be pregnant again. It ballooned up huge in one day, but now it appears a little smaller. It is still definitely bigger than normal with a bulbous stomach.

1. I haven't seen the dark spot in the abdomen I saw last time before birth, but again this happened in a couple days so far. Is this fish really pregnant? The fins indicate a definite female. There are no males in the tank, but I believe this is the same one that was pregnant before (1 of 2 yellow Platies). I know multiple births are possible from the same mating, so how it happened is not my concern.

2. If she is pregnant, when should I move her to a breeding trap?

Hi,
if you dont know when shes due i would let her give birth in the main tank,
i dont use breeding traps any more because of stress and the female aborting, instead add lots of live floating plants have your trap ready, when the time comes you will find the fry tend to be in the plants then you can cup them in to the waiting trap, hope all works out for you, donna :good:

i agree with donna but if u realy want to put them in an net do it in a week/week and a half.
