Pregnant Platy (i Think) ?

Hiya i'm new to tropical fish and have got my first tank it's a 150 litre we have about 35 fish ie: gourami's tetra's cicklids mollies,platy's. We have noticed that the female platy's are getting very fat, at the bottom of the anal fins they are going dark and can see black like eye's, but im not 100% sure if they are pregnant or not or what stage there are into there pregnancy? I do have pictures that i will try and post for people that can help me.

She is most likely pregnant. Platys get pregnant once every month, and the black spot on her is the eyes of the fry she is very soon to be giving birth to about 50 fry. you can buy another tank or get a net breeder that you can get at walmart or any other pet store. Congrats. I have a pregnant platy too, right now she is probably a little smaller than yours. Ha.

Thanks for the message yes it dose help, ive put her in her own tank with another pregnant platy shes beenin there for about a week now fingers crossed it wont belong now, once the fry are born ill put her back into the main tank.

Hunnib, I hope you have lots of cover in that breeding tank. When that platy delivers, my guess is this week, the fry will need a good hiding place with 2 adult females in the tank. When a female is done, it would be best to remove her to get rid of one hungry mouth. That way the fry only need to escape one female to survive.

Hi yes i have lots of cover for them also little hiding area's for them to hide into, my other question is shes been looking pregnant now for about a month but nothinks happening?

They can be pregnant like maybe a day or two after a month. So I'm guessing you'll probably have fry tomorrow or fry. Maybe even today

I have also noticed that one of the pregnant females is very domenant against the other one, when there being fed she will knock the other one away and if she comes out of her hide away she will do it aswell, is it wise to keep the 2 together in the breading tank

If she's being like that you might want to put a tank divider in there so they each wont have to fight over food, and can get evenly portions. What size tank do you have?
