Hi
I have a guppy which is pregnant and ready to give birth in the next few days. I don't have a breeding tank and would like to keep the fry. problem is they will all get eaten.

Is there anything I could use or put in my tank that i can use to keep the pregnant guppy in and it's fry when born. I do not have any money to buy anything but would love to keep them

any help please would be grateful

thanks in advance

John

net breeder could hold the female until she gives birth. the fry will be protected by the net breeder but make sure you take the female guppy out

I don't have any money for a net etc... however i have seen pics and vids online with people using a mini tank and placing it inside the main tank. holding just the pregnant guppy. I dont have a mini tank but is there anything around the house i could possible use?

thanks again

You can use a small bucket a fruitbull a sandwich box or any plastic container that will fit in your tank

I have used a plastic container which seems to float fine. Only thing is the water is not being cycled, or is this not really a problem.

Also what signs do guppies show when due for giving birth.. i have had my pregnant guppy for about 7 weeks and she has been pregnant for about 3/4weeks. When is a good time to put her into my container ?

put some timy holes into the sides of the container using a small nail or tack or something so water can flow through it. You may need a lot of holes.

If you look at them head on they wil be almost box like, also the gravid spot will get darker.

If you say its been pregnant for 3/4 weeks it's a week or less away from giving birth

Do you actually have the space to raise fry? If you don't even have the money for a breeding net, will you have the cash for fry food and space to raise them?
