I got a few fish from a friend and I think they are Sunburt Platys. Im not sure and I got one that is extremely pregnant, one thats about halfway finished growing, and 2 babys. Im not sure what they are and I would like to research them so they can have maximum health. I was also wondering if she will give live birth and if what I currently have in the tank fo the babys is enough protection for them. And one more thing, if I were to have a bright light on one side of a pregnant fish, what should I see on the other side?

Thankyou very much if you can awnser these questions.

Platy definitely, will give live birth, of quite a few fish by the look of her, she's big! Platys are very hardy and will tolerate a wide range of conditions, I think most strains have the same requirements.
I think if you shone a bright light on her then you would just see a very dark patch around her anus.
How big is your tank, what type of filter do you have, and what is your stocking?

Its 3 gallon, 4 fish currently, all look like her. 2 are babys about 1 cm long and another one is half her length. I dont expect to be keeping them all, as may tank may be to small. Its an undergravel filter system that i clean monthly, bout i save about 1 gallon of water, as i have heard not to change all of the water. I wouldnt really consider what i have to be a filter because it doesnt do much, but when i had 3 goldfish in it it was just fine. I just recently got my new fish from my brothers friend who started off with abot 10 and now has about 50, so i hope i can take care of them as well as he took care of his. How soon would you expect her to drop? And what should i do when she does as i have no "trap" (?). I did buy alot of fake plants, including floating ones, but how should i feed them and do i need to do anything extra to make sure they grow up? also, i have a very small beta bowl (maybe a quart?), so should I put her in it to have the babys and then put her back in the tank and let the babys grow until i feel safe to put them in the tank? Ill try to post some pics of the tank. And Im sorry for asking so many questions, but this is really imprtant to me.

The fish in the second picture looks like a male to me. It is definitely swollen but I believe I can see a gonopodium on it. That leads me to think bloated badly rather than carrying fry. A frequently prescribed cure for a bloated fish is to give it a few tiny pieces of a shelled pea with even the skin removed. It is intended to act as a laxative for them.

yeah, i agree...he looks like a male. and, if he/she were pregnant, the bulge would be much lower...

I can see the gonopodium also, and wouldn't "she" would be a bit squared off if she's ready to drop? Along with a very very dark spot near her anus.
