..is effectiveness a word? ha
anyways, I've been having some issues with HOB filters and the sand in my tank. My i replaced the impeller in my last filter and it got all grinded up again by the sand. So i bought a used penguin 305 with biowheels, to save the impeller i put some filter sponge stuff over the intake. The first time i did this it got very clogged up and the flow was extremely reduced. This week it seems to have a pretty open flow yet. But I'm concerned about the flow always fluctuating, and when i go back to school my little brother might not be as aware of this as i would be.
So someone suggested doing the sponge filter with powerhead idea. I was just wondering how well these really work and if it would be enough for a 30 gal tank. I'm not looking to spend a ton on the powerhead though. So would this one be ok. if not i could probably step up to one of the others that is about $20. I just want to know that it will be enough filtration for the tank and that it will work well.
