the 1 inch of fish per gallon rule doesnt work if it was the case then i would be able to have 300inches of fish in my tank

at the monent i have 154inches of fish in my tank if the rule of 1inch of fish per gallon works then im only half stocked and their is no way in the world i can put another 140inch of fish in my tank

I bet you tank looks pretty empty huh. Also if the rule doesn't work then why does everthing I read say to go by that. That include posts I have read here. They say not to measure it by the gallons but the amount of top water space you have, because every fish has to have so much room.

dont belive everything you read the 1inch rule may work with small fish like neons or guppys but not with larger fish

if you think it works then you should be able to keep a 55inch red tail cat in your tank with no problems or 2 x 24inch disk motoros rays with space to spare i dont think so think about it

their you go mate hears a video of my tank

if you think their is enought space for another 140inch of fish you have a lot to learn about fishkeeping

Lots of times people say they are gong to get a bigger tank but don't realize how much it will cost to buy furnish and maintain and never get it, that's why before buying more fish maybe you should buy a larger tank and if not fill it then at least have it at the ready or have a fund for a larger tank. T1KARMANN is right one inch per fish is only good for small fish and is used as a guidline for newer people to the hobby. It's not accurate in larger fish like T1KARMANN showed. You might be better off asking in the catfish section about your catfish question but powerheads are fine but won't really let you keep more fish. Some fish you need to overstock like cichlids to keep aggression down but others you need to understock.

I see what you mean, Thank you. Nice fish by the way, were did you get those rays really like those. You are right I do still have a lot to learn about fishkeeping, but I do know that theres know way you could have anohter 140 inchs of fish in your tank lol. I still do have one question that no one has answered, do you or anyone else know why my black fin shark (catfish) swims back and forth back and forth on one side of the tank at the top of the water width ways and sometimes long ways. The only time he stops this is when I feed them. Then after fedding he back at it again.

Thanks atmmachine, I'll ask that question in that section. Also the reason I bought the powerhead was to create a current other then just on top of the water. The main reason I bought it was because I read the catfish likes a current to swim in so I thought it would get him off the top and act normal, but so far that hasn't happened. Anyways the other fish like it so its not a waste of money. Thanks again guys for your help. Alos I have been looking on E-bay and tanks are cheap there thats were I plan to get one off there. Again thats for the advise.

T1KARMANN, I noticed you said the barb should be kept in a shoal, what is this never heard of that. That was my first fish and she seems very happy in the tank she is in

I did a quick google search on what a shoal is and it looks like its a school. Am I right on this, also I planned on getting atleast one other tin foil barb. I was going to do it this weekend but ranout of money so i'll probaly get another one next weekend
A school is a very particular type of shoal.

The chances that anyone truly keeps a school in a home aquarium are very slim.
