Hi all

Ive got a 450l cichlid tank and ive got x2 small powerheads coming tomorrow. Nothing fancy like Vortechs just cheap Chinese ones.

Is there a best place for them ? Ive read that positioning at the rear of the tank so it bounces of the front glass is good?

Thanks
James

I use to stick them at either end of the tank so the water shoots across the length of the tank. You can put them on both sides too and have one near the surface and one lower down in the tank.

You can put them on timers and have them come on at different times or run them both together.

Make sure there is a prefilter on the pumps to stop fish being sucked onto them.

I used to position powerhead on one side of the back of the aquarium. Water flow will be limited to one side of the tank. But you have two so I think you could put them on both sides of the tank

Do you mean something like a circulation pump? If so, I'd position them on the backplane of the tank and tilt them forward, then horizontally perhaps 35-45degrees. It's hard to be more detailed without a 3d representation of your setup. This of course depends on the type of fish you have and their preference for water movement.

If you're concerned about your new props being too small you can relax a bit. I don't do liters (large tank?), but laminar flow dictates that they'll end up pushing more water than they seem to.
