Powerhead Position For Tank

I have a tank which the powerhead recently died in, so I replaced it with another which wasn't quite the same yet does the job. The powerhead pumps the water up to the top of my tank, into a spraybar which disperses over my above tank filters. My question is does it matter where the powerhead is taking water from, it used to take it from the bottom of the tank just above the gravel. I am wondering can I move it to the top of the tank, in other words up near the surface of the water, does it make a difference where the water comes from??

doesnt matter much, only that the intake stays submerged during water changes.

If you take the water from the bottom of the tank at the opposite end from the spray bar then you will get better water circulation and so bettr filtration. There will be fewer dead spots.
