Okay so im getting a foothold on my tank reading now, but I have come to a point where im pricing up powerheads and a wave maker, but how many power heads will I need? And how powerful are they all? I mean i know they have a turnover per hour rating but how far will the water be pushed (for want of a better word) across my tank?
I have a rio 240 any reccomendations from persoanl experince would be great.
Thanks alot
Greg :good:

I use 2 x Hydor Koralia 3's in my rio 240 which creates something like 26x turnover. I'm quite pleased with them so far; low power consumption, quiet and they create a good flow..

tell us more about your tank please.
Well What do you want to know?Is a rio 240....I have looked at these so farhttp://www.swelluk.com/marine/special-offe...rice-1037.html#Think it would be neat to use.EDIT: Its empty if thats what you ment....
Hmm For the extra 37 quid I would get 2 more power heads and a wave maker :S But yours look really cool :good: They must be alot better quality than the ones i have linked. :SJust thinking i would get 4 x 1.1k = 4.4k LPH with the maxijet whilst you are getting 2 x 3.2k = 6.2k LPH turn over, so I guess my question is "Whats better? more turn over or more outlets?"And are your Hydor Koralia 3's compatable with a wave maker of some sort?ThanksGreg

Well 4400lph = 18x turnover which is a little on the low side for a reef tank but I don't know if the wave effect makes it okay with the added water movement.

I'm not sure if the koralia's can be hooked up to wave timers tbh. I have mine pointed at each other an so they create a turbulent flow which is not constant and am happy with that at the mo..

*steps out of the way to let someone with more experience give you a useful answer :p *

well we know what the tank is, but whats in the tank besides water? Or what do you plan on having in the tank?

Hydors can be used with the seio wave maker but it voids warranty on both items.

Hydors, tunze, seios, modded maxi-jets (you need to buy the mod seperately and build it yourself) are all stream (propellar) pumps, they have a much softer wide flow rather than a straight strong flow which traditional (impellar) pumps have, which is good.

In our 30 g tank at the moment we have 3 maxijet 1200`s . 2 places on the back wall at the bottom giving water flow through the rock work, and 1 blowing across the face, aling with a small internal housing rowaphos, the feed and return for the fuge and the feed/return for the skimmer theres plenty of flow in there.
But on our upgrade we`re going for atleast 3 hydor korallia 4`s blowing all over the tank and the just some maxijets to give flow to the corals...

wow, is it an sps tank bigian?

Ok after a little bit more reading im thinking of doing lps corals but i have so many more questions im going to start another thread to write out my list and see what you all think.
Thanks

lps corals dont need that much flow (most meaty and tentacley ones, some lps do like high flow but most dont)
