Possibly A Silly Question.... But...

I currently have 2 x54w external starter units which i did use on my planted tank. Ive changed to a cichlid setup now and the lights are way too bright and causing massive algae growth. Can i use a lower wattage bulb if the starter is a 54w? OR will i have to buy a new starter for the correct wattage of bulb i want to use?

You ahould be able to use the lower watt bulb as long as it fits
