do pleco's inter breed? like could i get a royal pleco to spawn with a sailfin for instance?
or a bulldog and a clown pleco?

mark

I was going to ask the same question regarding Ancistrus, i.e. would a M Albino mate with a F longfin Claro etc ???

im pretty sure they need to be very closely related

common bristlenose plecos are a mix of a few types of ancistrus. so im pretty sure all ancistrus can interbreed, but perhaps not with a common plec

Yep it is kind of a daft question as most of the pl*cos you mention are extremely difficult to spawn in captivity with their own kind never mind hybridise. Some of the easier bred pl*cos do hybridise though as said the 2 species have to be very closely related.

its probably daft but worth a ponder none the less...................

they were an example so you get the jist of what im trying to say. bn's are very easy to breed,as are common sail fins. so if i successfully cross bred a bn and young adult sailfin i could end up with a very long finned 10 inch bn possibly.

what if for instance, i found some bn eggs, then put them in with a male sail fin...would he fertilise them do you think?

Of course not and no common sailfins are not easy to breed and even if they were they would be far too far apart genetically to cross with a bristlenose.
