I agree. The best way to use them prophylactically is when the fish have just been bought and they are in a quarantine tank.
My molly has the same issue, she eats well, so scales sticking out and I have treated my tank for worms. What is it?If the fish is eating well and doesn't have scales sticking out around the belly, it is either worms or unborn babies.
If the fish is no longer eating then it is probably an internal bacterial infection.
I'm sure he didOne to add to your list.
Thanks, it has been added to my listNT Labs Anti-fluke and Wormer contains flubendazole, and unlike wormer plus (a powder intended for large discus tanks) it is a liquid which makes it easier to dose in smaller tanks.

Both. Click here to see, I still didn't get an answer there and I'm so worried..Did you treat for round worms or tapeworms, or both?
I think, after research, that she is just constipated. I am going to feed them some high fibre foods over the next couple of days and see how it goesMost livebearers coming out of Asia are riddled with intestinal worms & gill flukes because of where they are kept and what they are fed on (sewerage ponds).
If one fish has worms, they will all have worms.
-----------------
You can use Praziquantel to treat tapeworm and gill flukes. And Levamisole to treat thread/ round worms. If you can't find these medications, look for Flubendazole, which treats both lots of worms.
In the UK look for:
eSHa gdex contains praziquantel that treats tapeworm and gill flukes.
eSHa-ndx contains levamisole and treats thread/ round worms.
Remove carbon from filters before treatment and increase aeration/ surface turbulence to maximise oxygen levels in the water.
You treat the fish once a week for 4 weeks. The first treatment will kill any worms in the fish. The second, third and forth treatments kill any baby worms that hatch from eggs inside the fish's digestive tract.
Treat every fish tank in the house at the same time to prevent cross contamination.
You do a 75% water change and complete gravel clean 24-48 hours after treatment. Clean the filter 24 hours after treatment too.
Do not use the 2 medications together. If you want to treat both medications in a short space of time, use Praziquantel on day one. Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate on day 2 & 3. Treat the tank with Levamisole on day 4 and do a 75% water change and gravel clean on day 5, 6 & 7 and then start with Praziquantel again on day 8.
The water changes will remove most of the medication so you don't overdose the fish the next time you treat them. The gravel cleaning will suck out any worms and eggs that have been expelled by the fish. Repeating the treatment for 3-4 doses at weekly intervals will kill any worms that hatch from eggs. At the end of the treatment you will have healthier fish.
I cant follow that thread, sorry I don't know what its about.Both. Click here to see, I still didn't get an answer there and I'm so worried..

Scales sticking out (only top and bottom), fish gasping at surface, molly skinny (looks like in labour only skinnier). I'm really desperate for help..I cant follow that thread, sorry I don't know what its about.
A cause is not poor water quality, I got rid of the medications so not that... Only salt in the tank..Scales sticking out anywhere around the body is usually bacterial.
Fish gasping at surface can be poor water quality, chemicals in the water, or gill problems (flukes, fungus or bacteria).
Skinny fish is usually intestinal worms or an internal protozoan infection. However, some bacterial infections will cause fish to lose weight and waste away over the course of a few days to a week.
If the fish eating well?
What does its poop look like?

If you only have livebearers in the tank you can use up to 4 heaped tablespoons of salt for every 20 litres of water.
