hi all, ive been pretty busy lately with work and havent been able to come here as often
but now im back

as some of you may know i currently have a 10gallon freshwater tank, and used to have some platies but i sold them a few months ago and im left with 1 otto

anyways
i might be getting a new 39gallon setup soon but the problem is the previous owner had saltwater fish in it, and i want only fresh water fish
the tank is going to come with everything i need for a complete salt water setup except the water
this means everything has been used with salt water including the filter

so my question is how exactly would i transition the tank from a salt water tank to fresh water?
cycling wont be a problem because im going to use the bio filter from my 10gallon to help the new filter mature

would i have to wash/replace the substrate thats already in there? or can i keep it how it is and use it with fresh water?

here is what all im getting with the new tank:

Pump
Filter (hang over edge type)
Spare new filte
Spare sponge
Chemical test kits (several)
Instant ocean full box plus some
Crushed coral base
Coral décor
Décor
Fake plants
Heater/thermostat
Basic skilter
Flake food
De-stress
Hydrometer
Separation tank
Different size nets
Vacuum cleaner
Thermometer

and here are a few pics:

im definately gona throw out the gravel, but i want to keep the fake coral in there for my new fish to hide/play in
what would be a good way to remove all of the salt from decor and fake coral?

you will need to compleatly re-do the scaping, new gravel, plants and such. as for the filter u need a new sponge and to clean the filter out fully. other than that you should be fine, just rember to wash the tank out first.
