Hi there. I noticed this morning something small and white attached to my electric blue jack demspey. He's been in the tank for over a year and had no issues. I suspect it could be an anchor worm but am not sure. I do not see this on any other fish so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

Can you post a picture of the fish showing its side?

Have you added anything new to the tank in the last month?
Anchorworm doesn't miraculously appear in aquariums and has to be introduced on fish, plants or contaminated water. If you haven't added anything new in the last month, it's unlikely to be anchorworm.

It's more likely to be a bit of skin from the fish scratching itself on something in the tank, or damage from a fight.

Did you add anything new to the tank?

Hi there, thanks for the replies. We did have some new fish come into the tank just over a month ago but no other fish are showing this. They did come from a reputable place but I suppose anything is possible. Is there anything else I should look for that might indicate what this is?

Heres some pics from today.

I can't really tell anything from the pictures but it doesn't look like anchorworm.
I am more inclined to think it is fungus or a damaged scale.

Wipe the inside of the glass with a clean fish sponge.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

Clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks.
Wash filter media/ materials in a bucket of tank water and re-use them.

Add 2 heaped tablespoons of salt per 20 litres of tank water. Keep the salt in the tank for 2 weeks. If you do water changes, add salt to the new water before adding it to the tank.

Colin_T, thanks, will take care of that. It looks smaller today, not sure if some piece broke off but that's my guess. Otherwise the fish seems fine.
