So a few days ago, I finally got some ornate tetras. They are amazing. However I was obsessively watching them this afternoon, when I noticed I could see what looks to be the silver of one of the tetras eyes through its head. The others are not like this, so I am concerned something is wrong. Please tell me I am just being paranoid!

He eats fine, gets on well with the others, manages to hold his own against the other two more "dominant fish, swims about fine etc.

My water parameters are:
PH: 7.6
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5

I have attached a really short video so you can see, I think it shows the problem quite well

Does it look like a cotton wool ball.

No, the eye looks fine externally. I was worried because I can see silver through his head. Nothing else appears wrong. I'm not gonna stress about it too much

No I thought that was it at first, but I can always spot him in the tank and I can always see the silver, no matter where he is.
I can tell him apart, because he is smaller than the 2 "top" fish, but bigger than the other 3

Sorry, When I first looked at the vid I thought it was a little cotton ball.

Can you describe what you see in more detail. As it hard to see in video.

It is dificult to describe but:
One of his eyes is fine, the other appears perfectly fine in that there is no cloudiness, fungus, etc, however it protrudes a tiny bit from his head
More of a concern is that when looking at him front on, there seems to be a silver mass I can see inside his head on the side of the slightly protruding eye, making me wonder if the eye has swollen inwards.

But there is no cloudiness or other symptoms ???
also doesn't seem to affect him. I am starting to wonder if it might be the result of an old injury?

I see the silver bit in your video very well. It definitely is no reflection. It is very weird. I tried to search the best i could and couldnt find anything. Im sorry i cant help :( but i see exactly what you are talking about.

Isolate him and use an internal bacteria med.

It's hard to say what caused it. Injury, disease.

How is the acting. Is the eye bothering him.

Doesn't seem to bother him at all. It is very odd.
What bacterial med should I use? I have no clue about that. Thanks for your help Wilder.

Thanks lolobunnz I agree.

You will need to isolate to a hospital tank as both meds wipe the beneficial bacteria out
in your filter.

UK Furanol 2 JBL
US Maracyn Plus.
