Poorly Mollie

Bit of an emergency on my hands!.

I noticed a couple of days ago that one of my mollies was spending alot of time at the surface not doing much. The mollie in question is normally very energetic and happy.

Anyway, I decided to keep an eye on him and he seemed to have perked up a bit after I cleaned the tank. A couple of days later however, he was spending a lot of time at the surface again.

I woke this morning to find him at the bottom of the tank swimming upside down, eyes seem slightly petruding and kind of swimming upside down in circles, like he is rything like an eel!.

Its not a nice sight and im wondering what could be wrong. Im wondering if he can be cured or if I should humanely kill him. He doesnt look too good at all.

If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate some help.

Ive just been home from work for my lunch and he is still whirling about at the bottom, looking really unhappy. It is like he is doing cartwheels.

I think if he is no better tonight, Ill put an end to the poor fishes suffering.

I would hate to kill it though if there is any kind of treatment.

have you tested your water ?
ammonia , nitrite and nitrates

what size tank is he in and what else is in the tank?

Hi, its a 60 litre tank.

I dont have figures of my tests to hand but I have an API test kit and test the water reguraly and it always tests fine. I preform frequent changes too.

I will put results up here when I have them to hand.

I have:

1 dalmation mollie
4 head and tail light tetra
2 guppys
2 corys

All the others appear fine


Ive read somehwere of a parasite that can give fish brain damage and cause them to act like this.

"fine" isn't really enough, lots of folks think "fine" is a only a little bit of amonia or nitrite when it isn't.

What you need is the exact readings for amonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH & preferably KH & GH. Use this cut n paste form;

The more detail you give, the more chance you have of saving your mollie.

Thanks, ill do some tests when I get home and post them on here.

Ive been reading about whirling disease, i sure hope its not that!!.

its almost as though he is chasing his tail!.
