We recently got a siamese fighting fish, why the guy @ Pets @ Home let us I never know...

We bought Gourami's on the same day and as I have just found out that's a BAD mix!!!

Anyhoo, back to the matter @ hand....

The siamese fighting fish "Scooby" has been attacked and is hardly left with any of his beautiful fins :(

After speaking with another member I was pointed in this direction.....

Been advised to take him out of the tank and put him on his own, which I will sort first thing when I get home!

But what else can I do, treatment wise to get him back to himself (if I can) he's in a bad way - found him nestled in one of the plants last night continusly bouncing - was there over an hour.

And this morning he's still alive but doing the same at the bottom of the tank, worried that when I get home I'll find him floating :(

Before all this happened he seemed fine, had a few chases with one of our mollies but that was it - he seemed on top of it all, in fact he seemed boss.

Another question is he hasn't been eating the flake food we have been putting in the tank, is there anything special fighting fishes will eat?

I dont know about medication, but Bettas (as we here more commenly call them) eat anything from Frozen and freeze dried bloddworms, pellets, shrimp, and some eat flakes. You can also give them tuna, but ask someone who has personal tuna feed expierence.

Try feeding him angel fish pellets or betta pellets, all of the bettas I've had eat them. Add anti-fungus for regular fish into the water according to the dosage on the packaging.

Thanx guys, I'll try some of those - If I still have the chance.

Just want 2 get home and make sure the lil guys alright - bless!

you could also try some aquarium salt (not the table kind), though i'm not sure on the specifics of how much. you'll have to search the forum or internet for that. i think frequent water changes would also be good to reduce amount of bacteria that can infect his wounds.

Seriously try Jungle brand Fungus Eliminator, it treats serious bacteria and fungus, I swear by this stuff it never lets you down. It's medicine actually dusted on on aquarium salt, so you get both at once. Its a small bottle you should find it at any petstore/fishtore.

With it, also see if you can get BettaFix. It is melaluca oil for the fish, helps to heal the fish fins and is natural. Small squeeze bottle. Try feeding some nice live foods, frozen is ok, or betta pellets - you can get a pack for a few dollars.

Both items have instructions on the back

Best of luck!
