I think that the vet is the best choice. But before hand, I wouuld try to pop the cysts( I know he will be in alot of pain but if it works no vet or pain). But still the vets will know what they are doing. If I were you I would try some mararyn 2 or any type of Mardel Product. They are one of the best brands for fishie medicine. I am so sorry for him, and you. Best of luck.

Hi All

Just wanted to let everyone know what happened with my Xavier. We took him to the vets on Saturday, who told us that he had rather a lot of canerous tumours and that the best thing for him was to let him go. It is and was very sad - the vet put him to sleep. He was very peaceful, no flapping or anything just gradually slowed down his breathin until he was gone. I would definitely recommend the vets way.

Thank you for everyone who tried to help, much appreciated.

Again I would recommend an Xavier, he was wonderful, and so intelligent. I wont have another as none will replace him ........ all too sad.

Thanks again.

Im sorry he was put to sleep :(

Sorry bless him.
R.I.P.

Thanks.

I now have another prob, perhaps someone may be able to help. My tank has one other cichlid, a Geophagus Jurapari, Troy. We have had him for 3 years, he was smaller than Xavier when he went in the tank and always the less dominant of the two, but he has been with Xavier since baby. Since Xavier has not been in the tank he is spending alot of the time facing the back of the tank, as if sulking. Could he be missing the other cichlid? Should I give him time. In the tank as well as him are: 2 denasoni, 3 large silver sharks, and some smaller fish. He is still eating, but just seems not his eslf. May be me worrying...........

Im sure he is missing the other cichlid as they do have bonds.
Just to make sure he isnt ailing, do water changes and gravel vacs and feed him some of his favourite food.

Ah that's sad he must be feeling the fish version of how I feel! We have done a water change in the last couple of days, and I will certainly ensure that his fav food goes his way. Thank you for your help, we will watch him closely, I couldnt bear for anything to happen to him after we lost our beautiful shining star.
