Hello everyone! I’m new to the forum and wanted some advice about my cherry barbs. I lost a female recently and have another one that’s looking very poorly, red raw on her belly/gills, she’s not moving around much etc. My water parameters are all stable, I do regular water changes and have tons of live plants. I upgraded my tank about 8 weeks ago and have added some rummy nose tetras, one of which died a few weeks ago. My other fish are happy as Larry and eating well :) I’ve attached some pics, apologies they’re not very clear! Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi! Can you give us your water parameters? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate PH, and GH readings? What is your water temp. and size of tank? Is your tank cycled? Are you aware of the aquarium nitrogen cycle? Do a large, 70% water change for now until we get this figured out.

Look on your water company's website for hardness - you need a number and the unit of measurement as UK water companies often use units which are not used in fish keeping. As you live in London, you probably have very hard water but you do need to check to make sure.

Hi Deanasue! Thanks for replying, I’ve got a 55 litre set up, my tank is about 25 degrees.
my parameter are as follows
Nitrites- 0ppm
Ammonia-0ppm
Nitrates- around 10-15ppm
PH-7.6 ish (it’s always been on the higher side)
I don’t have a test for GH I’m afraid. My tank was fully cycled before I added any fish and I’m aware of the nitrogen cycle :) I did a 30% water change yesterday but will do a larger one tomorrow

I do have very hard water in my area unfortunately.

LO? The Os?
Waters hard in Leyton and surrounding areas. I lived in E17 for a while and my fish suffered for it but Cherry Barbs will love it.
Id do as the above posters suggest. They know their stuff.

Hi clown lurch :) what do you mean by the OS? I’m baffled as I keep on top of my water changes and test my water regularly. It’s not like any common diseases I’ve seen in fish

Lo1902? The Os? Leyton Orient? No? Thought it was a football reference. Sorry for any confusion.
Best of luck with the CBs. I was looking at some today myself.
