I have recently aquired a blue tang in my 250L tank....so far we have 2 clownfish, 2 cleaner shrimps, a sifting star, hermit crabs and one coral.....tested the tank parameters 6 days after the fish was added and all ok...the fish initially very shy but after 48 hrs started feeding well...before he was added i was only feeding the clowns once a day with tetra marine flakes. However, I bought some mysis and increased the feeding to twice a day when i put the tang in.....the clownfish and the tang all seemed to be feeding well. Today the tang has gone really quiet, hardly feeding (even though I got hold of some of the veggie sheets - he's not touched it) - he has now taken to lying in his favourite rock hiding place hardly moving...haven't given any mysis for a few days...but am worried will overfeed....don't know what's wrong.....also my largest clown looks really fat just behind the gills which I hadn't noticed before either...help!!
have just rechecked all my parameters - SpG1.024, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite 0, pH 8.4.....alkalinity 2 (have added some coral buff)

My only thought would be that it is the mysis and that you never gave him algae sheets in the first place. Tangs are herbivorous, and while it is fine for them to have some meaty foods occasionaly, algae should be their staple diet.

oh dear. is there anything that i can do now to remedy the situation now that he is not eating at all?

:hi: to TFF and the salty side of the forum :good:

It is very unlikely that you have overfed your tang and it is also very unlikely it is because of lack of seaweed or algae for a few days. if your tank was being overfed you would likely have a spike of phosphates.

However he might be developing ich, tangs are prone to it when stressed. Try to reduce stress as much as possible.

Can you show us a photo of the tang and the clown please?

Need to point out that the tang is going too get too big for your tank

We are all very nosey on here and would love to know a bit about you and your tank?

I can only guess a Blue Tang would be a Regal Tang 250L is way to small for a fish like this and it is more than likely stressed as Seffie said I would be surprised if it did not have whitespot.

These fish need a good 5 - 6 ft tank to be happy in a 250L is to small for any Tang you are better off looking at the smaller fish Blennies,Gobies,Firefish these would be more than happy in a 250 there are a lot more I am sure someone can add to the list.

The best thing to do with him is take him bac to the LFS or Sell him to someone with a bigger tank
