Hey everyone

We got a male super delta betta a month or so ago, he was fine, but lately hes gone a bit droopy, not flaring his fins, the end of his fins have gone a bit pink.

the water parameters are perfect, the tank has about 30 shrimp, a few mosquito rasboras but they dont go near him.

i was thinking he may of been eating the crab cuisine that i feed to the shrimps, but im not sure if that would affect him?

any help appreciated.

Best if you could pop a photo up :good: Will be easier to give an opinion. Also Tank size, temperature, what type of filteration.

ill try get a pic of him, the tank is a 30ltr planted, it gets water changes frequently, the filter is an internal 450lph. the temp is around 75 - 78

Hi

If the temp is down at 75, that could be causing a problem. but lets see a pic before guessing :good:

heres a few pics, the temp is slightly higher than i though, its actually at 82

the pics arent brillian they were taken in a hurry, will get some better ones if needed, hesnever flared since we've had him, but hes been fine until 2 days ago when he started acting a little strange.

Hi

Umm, dont look happy does he  I've never seen fins go pink like that. I also noticed his underneath looks a bit pale/pink too.

I would get these pics into the emergencies section. I'm not sure, but there could be some septicemia there, in which case its going to need treatment asap. If Wilder is online, pm her and ask if she can take a look, she's really good.

he looks stressed as S@#$, what are his tank mates? watch to see if maby they are nipping him or maby they keep him too busy to sleep and he cant rest cause they chase/ bother him too much??? males dont often get stress marks but he looks kinda bad. maybe fin rot??? get a hold of wilder

His tank mates dont chase him, they just usually hide at the back. Hes been happy enough for the last month.

what treatment is he going to need? ive not heard of fish getting septicemia before.

nel5on.

EDIT: ive just looked into it, ive done an immediate 30 - 50% water change (although the amonia was at 0 anyways) i do 2 water change per week usually.

what are his chances of surviving?

thanks

Hi

Testing for ammonia will only tell you if there's ammonia. You cant test for bad bacteria or parasites.

Have you started a thread on the Emergencies section? There will be people who dont frequent here that will be able to help you. I have never experienced anything like that i'm afraid.

He certainly dosnt look very good. It could be septicemia, or some type of fin rot maybe.
Things like this are often triggered by bad water quality, have you tested your water? It might also be that he is being nipped by the rasboras, even if you dont see it.
I would post in the emergency section to see if anybody else has an opinion.

Only deseases I know that come in pink is columanris and ulcers. Or wounds that have a pink edging to them.

Septicemia usally red edging to fins, red streaks through fins, blood patches bemeath the skin.

Your tanks sounds overstocked to me with all the shrimp.

Have you tryed a bacterial med as I would.

Pink edges to fins is finrot.

Taken from the link.
The symptoms of bacterial tail and fin rot in goldfish are obvious. The fins are frayed, with red streaks and pink edges.

I knew you would appear :good: Thats why i said to ask you

Thanks bronzecat.
I would use a bacterial med.
