i was playing with my american shorthair tabby cat today when i felt his stomach and 5+ bumps. i thought they were just his nipples, but they seemed to be sharp. so, i lifted up some fur and examined. i was baffled. simon had at least 7 nails/talons of a different animal embedded very far into his chest. They were very swollen, and VERY sharp. i managed to pull a few out before he retaliated in pain, but i am worried. not sure what the nails came from. if he needs to go to the vet, we have to wait 2 days for it to re-open. the cats are outside/inside cats. he seems happier with the nails out. he doesn't want to lay down though. any advice?

yes don't pull the rest out this will leave the wounds wide open to infection call out an emergency vet

Oh my goodness, what do you think tagged Simon and how on earth did they leave their claws in him

Has he seen the vet yet, what did they say?

Could they possibly be quills from a hedgehog? bathe where you have pulled the ones out with a salt water solution if you cant get him to a vet for a couple of days.

cant go to vet until tomorrow - looks more like claws,, maybe a bird or another cat. i believe they are black

simon's a somewhat aggressive cat. he is very aggressive to other animals, kinda aggressive to other cats and very calm towards humans. he sometimes likes to set himself up in fights. he may just be doing his job of protecting his sisters as the alfa-male. he is getting better but still swelling. i managed to actually see one of the cuts today. it was very red and bloody, about 1 cm in diamiter with a claw in it. he seems okay, he doesnt look like he could drop dead any second, but he is in pain.

Poor chap. I hope he is better soon, the vet will sort him out :good:

were keeping him as clean as possible and washing his cuts and sanitizing them

ok cool. well if he gets a temperature (hot ears), his nose goes dry, his third eyelid starts to go over the eyeball, peeing/pooping differently, goes off food, or area around cuts becomes red, sore, or doesnt look normal, pleeeeeeease take him to the vet! I used to be a vet nurse so i do have a fair idea of what im talking about :)
