Polypterus Delhezi

I just bought a flagtail prochilodus for my 120gall amazing fish and very active.

I agree against silver dollars they get ugly when odler, red hooks are nicer, but similar fish.

how anout Gars, african pike cichlids, or head standers?

You are gonna lose nearly every smaller fish in that tank, so I'd sell them or get another tank before they become breakfast, lunch and dinner.

that is a nice P. delhezi, quiet fat for such a short size though :)

on another note, you need more clown loaches, try for at least 4 :)

i googled the flagtail, that's gonna be a big dude! hope he's fun to watch :)

head standers, now there's a fish i like, saw them at the LFS a year ago as i was cycling my tank, not seen them in there since though so they'd kinda been forgotten about, i'll make some enquiries about them, we said they'd be hilarious to watch when stoned... lol i'll research gars and african pike chichlids later :) ty for the suggestion :) we were thinking of some rams or apistos, but apistos are £25 a pair around here, and i've not seen any nice rams in either shop i go to yet, there's no hurry so i can think on what i want and order in :good:

yeah Patrick would look fat in that pic, greedy little wotsit had a molly and a platty for breakfast that day..... he's eating frozen dillies with great gusto now tho :) he had 10 for his tea last night... i'll not be taking out the smaller fish, if Patrick hasn't caught them yet then they'll be too fast for me to catch!! i cannot take the wood out the tank, it's swollen too big with the water and i'd stress everything else out if i even tried, i have 2 very shy still settling in gobies that have only just started coming out of hiding and looking interested in food, i thought it was touch and go with those dudes which is a shame, if i can keep them going through will power alone then they'll be fine! atm they're my fave little fish in the tank, so unusual!

very likely i'll stick with 2 clown loaches, we had 2 adults before and they were fine, both LFS agree that 2 are fine :)

the flagtail is a great fish to watch.

As for rams, and apistos they will become bichir food.

And dont take what your LFS says for granted, clownloaches become very shy and reclusive on their own and in pairs, mine never used to come out when it was on its own, and the same for when I had two. I now have 4 and they are out all day and night.

yeah i was wondering about the rams, and if they'd get big enough or not :/

clown loaches are fine, out all the time :) i love watching their antics!

Do you have fun watching small fish get eaten by bigger fish when you are stoned? I personally think that is unbelieveably cruel!! Just my opinion!!!

LOL read the thread properly before u jump and down on me!!!, i've only caught the polypterus eating one fish and that was one i thought was too large for him, 2 others of the sameish size disappeared overnight, i was laughing at the headstanders (if you'd have read the comments properly  ) and laughing that they'd freak me out when i was stoned!

i'm not purposely putting stuff in there and laughing as it gets eaten, but i have some small fish 'left over' that i've had in there for *ages* and are obviously fast enough and have enough hiding places to be fine, i've found that the polypterus likes FROZEN ie DEAD!! dillies and am hoping that if i can wean him onto other frozen food too then he'll leave everything else the hell alone!

it's been trial and error to find stuff that works, some stuff that works with the polypterus is too slow for the crayfish etc etc.. what is in there now seems to work.
