I have a 20 gallon tank that I am beginning to stock. I know for a fact I am going to have a pair of German Blue Rams in there. I love having them as the featured specimen of my tank, since they're such a beautiful fish. I was considering Rummy Nose Tetra as tank mates, but I have a white/blue LED lighting fixture and I think it may be more flattering to the Neon's coloration. That being said, I don't want them being the main feature of the tank. I love both fish, and I can't make up my mind, so I would love to have some help!

I know this isn't in ur list but would you be tempted by dwarf neon rainbows they grow to 2 inches... They mostly school together I have mine with a daylight bulb at front an colour bulb at the back an they look really good...

I have rummynose in my tank as well they do school together really tight but not nowhere near as colourful....

I voted RNT but also consider the Cardinal Tetra's which are in my opinion a lot brighter than the Neon.
The Green Neon, or the Rasboras Espei's are also very bright and school well.

Good Luck

I was actually considering them as well. I guess I was just worried that they'd be the star of the tank? I find cardinal tetras to be just stunning specimens....

I guess this would depend on the person looking at it, they could be drawn towards the school of Cardinals or the Rams, would it really matter?   Or I get the feeling you have a soft spot for your Rams ;)  Have you got a picture of them?

Check out the Espei's too, lovely fish, but hard to obtain generally.  I do like RNT's too, not that I have any at present.

I found Espei's to be very hard to get as well. I actually don't have any of my fish yet....I'm going to purchase them around the end of the week and add them to my tank. I'm excited :D I had a tank of GBRs before, but....a tank disaster cost me the whole thing. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/411777-well-this-sucks/

I guess it doesn't truly matter, I just want to show off my rams the most because I'm obsessed ;) :p
I am tempted for those cardinal tetras.....but I also worry about the rams picking on them. Any advice?

Voted for Rummy Nose Tetras, people seem to have a lot less problems with them and their coloration will be more flattering to the Rams.
Another fish to consider could be Serpae Tetra, because if the rams breed they could become a little bit more aggressive, and the Serpae's are hardy and will stand up for themselves. If you keep them in a decent sized shoal there'll be no nipping and they look AMAZING when fully settled in; DEEP red :)

But RNT is a good choice :D

If the rams don't pick on neons or rummy's why would you worry about the cardinals?

Neons do prefer cooler water, whereas cardinals and rummy's won't mind warmer temps that the rams NEED to really be their healthiest.

Rummy's for me (I include cardinals in my vote)

Poor neons. I have a shoal of them and they're awesome. Ive never kept rummynose though so I can't really vote.
