Base Layer would be this

Then a layer of fine gravel with this mixed through it

And then play sand to finish

What do you think ?

Richie

I wouldn't get the Ferka Aquabase no need as the tropica one is getting very good reviews and will be more than adequate IMO. Sand over the top would be fine, but the two will mix, ain't nothing you can do about that ;)

Ahh poop lol !

So the top of the sand is gonna go all manky and brown and look total horrid ?

Must be a way to stop it getting right to the top ?

And it says one bag (5l) is enough for 250l tank mines 240....

should i get the smaller bag aswell to be sure ?

Thanks alot

Richie

Not sure never used it, an extra small bag cant do any harm I guess, it'll not add hugely to the overall depth, even if you find you have enough from the big bag. Might be worth it, save postage if you find you need more

The only potential way to stop the two mixing would be to use a gravel tidy, however I dont know how these work in planted tanks, as I would think there is the possibility that they restrict root growth and might stop the plants getting to the plant substrate below. However, if you want to be our guinea pig go for it!
