Giving birth is stressful on fish. I try to have plenty of hiding places and plants in the tank and keep the tank lights off and only have sunlight or room lights on.

I usually guess wrong but have seen them have a few at a time over a week or two or all of them at once. The less stressed and the safer the mother feels the better it goes. I have noticed that if they seems stress they tend to have just a few at a time. I have lost several mother mollies shortly after giving birth :(

ugh It’s the worst. I have covered my tank with lots of plants for hiding and was glad I got to save some last time. I guess patience is key but I am the most impatient person ever lol. Thank you for all the help!!!

You are welcome, fish keeping is a hobby where patience is important. You may want to try some floating plants like hornwort my tetra fry like to hide out in there. Also Anacharis and water sprite work well.

Hi! My partner and I are really struggling to determine which guppies are female and which are male. I know about the gravid spot, male gonopogulum (sorry I don’t know how to spell it), and such but I feel like I’m loosing my mind. I have some guppies I would like to make sure are pregnant and not just bloated. Please let me know!! View attachment 102571
I am sorry to tell you this but they are all males. Take out the one in the breeder box immediately! I did a video on how to sex livebearers on my channel. You should check it out if you would like to:

Hi!
Females are usually a lot larger and rounder than males in general, so that's a great place to start to identify the two sexes. And if you have had males and females together in the same tank recently (even up to the past 3-4 months) just expect the females to be pregnant!

The roundness of the stomach on females also becomes 'boxed off' when they are closer to delivering and the gravid spot will display deeper colouration. So just keep an eye out for that, and also the behavioral changes. i.e. Swimming up and down, hiding in corners/under filters & air stones, and angling the tail upwards. These are signs that they are close to going into labour!

Hope this helps in some way!
